For an energizing afternoon immersed in the Latin soul of Greater Miami and Miami Beach, nothing beats the Calle Ocho Music Festival. The annual block party is one of the largest celebrations of its kind in the US, and for more than 40 years, it has been a historic event for residents and visitors alike. But it is much more than a day of concerts: Calle Ocho is part of Miami Carnival, a great celebration of Latino food, art, dance, and culture.

Calle Ocho is a party, above all. And while it’s largely family-friendly, it’s still an energetic and sometimes wild time, so go in with an open mind. Even if the weather is cool, the street gets hot, so dress in comfortable and airy clothing. Be sure to drink plenty of water (bring some with you). And be respectful of everyone around you. Since the event is free, it can get crowded, and a little courtesy goes a long way.

There is plenty to eat and drink on Calle Ocho. If you want to try everything, order small items from different stalls so you don’t get too full.

As for listening to all the music, it’s important to note that several acts are performed simultaneously, and moving from one stage to another can take some time due to the crowds. So plan which artists you want to see and prioritize.
